Three Dead, One Critically Injured After Early-Morning House Fire on Detroit’s West Side
Detroit, Michigan — A devastating house fire on Detroit’s west side early Monday morning has left three people dead and another in critical condition, according to Detroit Fire Department officials. The blaze broke out around 6 a.m. at a residence on Wildmere Avenue near 7 Mile Road and Livernois Avenue.
Fire Claims Three Lives in Morning Blaze
Firefighters were dispatched within minutes of receiving the call and arrived to find heavy flames engulfing the home. Authorities confirmed that two victims were found dead inside the residence, while two others were rescued and rushed to a local hospital for treatment.
One of the rescued victims — identified only as a teenage girl — later died at the hospital. The other, an elderly person, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Officials have not yet released the names or ages of the victims, pending notification of family members.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire investigators spent several hours at the scene combing through debris in search of clues as to what may have sparked the deadly blaze.
Authorities have not ruled out the possibility of electrical issues or heating-related causes, which are common during winter months in older Detroit homes.
Second Fatal Fire in 24 Hours
This tragedy marks the second deadly house fire in Detroit in just over 24 hours. On Sunday, a separate blaze on Rutherford Street claimed the life of a child, prompting renewed concerns about fire safety and working smoke detectors in residential neighborhoods.
City officials and fire crews are once again urging residents to check smoke alarms, keep space heaters at least three feet away from flammable objects, and ensure escape plans are in place in case of emergencies.
Community Response
The Detroit Fire Department expressed condolences to the victims’ families and emphasized its commitment to investigating the incident fully.
“This has been a heartbreaking 24 hours for our city,” one fire official said. “We are working to determine exactly what happened and how we can prevent further tragedies.”
As the community reels from back-to-back house fires, neighbors are expected to gather for a small candlelight vigil later this week to honor the victims.
