Georgia Father Accused of Choking Girlfriend in His Game Room and Threatening to “Crush Her Skull” and “Cut Her Heart Out” in Front of Their Baby: Police
OAKWOOD, GEORGIA — A 22-year-old Georgia man is accused of violently attacking the mother of his 1-year-old daughter, choking her in his game room, shoving her into a wall, and threatening to “crush her skull on the pavement” and “cut her heart out” during a terrifying domestic assault, according to Oakwood police.
The suspect, identified as Hunter Mathis, was arrested Saturday night and charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor battery-family violence after officers responded to an emergency call just before 10 p.m. Police say the incident began over $750 that Mathis believed the victim had stolen.
Argument Over Missing Money Escalated Into Violence, Police Say
The 23-year-old woman told officers she had been grilling outside when Mathis demanded to go through her phone to check “where the $750 she stole was,” according to the police report.
Police said:
“They argued for a while before Mathis went inside.”
Moments later, while the victim was on the phone with a family member, Mathis allegedly stormed outside again, demanding to know who she was speaking with.
The victim said Mathis eventually went into his game room, giving her time to begin packing a bag for herself and their daughter — but the situation quickly escalated again.
Victim Says Mathis Blocked the Door and Began Choking Her
According to police, Mathis yelled upstairs and told her to bring him something to “clean up his beer.” When she walked into the room with a towel, the assault began.
The police report alleges:
“Hunter jumped up from his chair, grabbed her left sleeve, and shoved her against the wall with his body weight.”
The woman told officers that when she pulled her arm away, Mathis wrapped his right hand around her neck and began choking her.
She said:
“I could still breathe a little, but it was hard. I felt like I was starting to lose consciousness.”
Police say Mathis continued to block her path, preventing her from leaving the game room as their 1-year-old daughter was present nearby.
Threats to Kill Her Repeated “Multiple Times”
According to the press release, the violence escalated as Mathis shoved the woman down, causing her to hit her head on the bathroom door.
At the top of the stairs, officers say Mathis made a series of threats:
“Hunter made multiple threats to crush her skull on the pavement.”
“Hunter told the victim that he would cut her heart out multiple times.”
The victim told police that Mathis threatened to kill her repeatedly, all while their daughter was within view.
Officers arrived soon after and placed Mathis into custody without further incident.
Charges Filed, Court Date Pending
Mathis was arrested and charged with:
- Aggravated Assault (Felony)
- Battery – Family Violence (Misdemeanor)
Police confirmed he remains in custody. According to available court records, no future court dates have been scheduled yet.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be possible depending on further evidence or witness statements.
