North Carolina Man Who Raised $100K After Train Stabbing Now Charged With Assaulting Pregnant Girlfriend, Police Say

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA — A 24-year-old man who received more than $100,000 in GoFundMe donations after being stabbed on a Charlotte light rail train is now facing serious felony charges himself, accused of punching his pregnant girlfriend, causing a facial fracture, and threatening to kill her children, according to newly released court documents.

GoFundMe Support Surges After Train Stabbing

Earlier this month, Kenyon Dobie gained national attention after being stabbed in the chest on a light rail train on Dec. 5. His GoFundMe page, created to help with medical expenses, raised over $114,000, as of Thursday evening.

Dobie wrote to donors:

“Luckily I survived but my body has taken plenty damage… Please pray and help me with a better recovery.”

His alleged attacker, Oscar Solarzano, is facing federal charges for committing violence on a mass transportation system. Officials say Solarzano is currently in the U.S. illegally.

New Charges: Felony Assault and Threats to Kill

But just days after donations poured in, authorities arrested Dobie for allegedly carrying out two violent attacks on the mother of his unborn child and their 1-year-old son.

According to Mecklenburg County records, Dobie is charged with:

  • Felony assault causing serious bodily injury
  • Assault on a pregnant woman
  • Assault on a female
  • Domestic violence
  • Three counts of communicating threats

The incidents reportedly occurred months apart, on Feb. 18 and Oct. 19.

Dobie has been ordered to comply with electronic monitoring and a no-contact order, though he currently remains held on a $2 million bond.

February Assault: Punch to the Face While Holding Their Child

In the February incident, police say Dobie arrived to pick up the couple’s young child while intoxicated. When his girlfriend tried to take the child back, Dobie allegedly struck her.

An affidavit states:

“[The girlfriend] stated that he punched her in the face with a closed fist before leaving the residence.”

October Assault: Facial Fracture, Loss of Consciousness, and Threats

The October assault left the woman with severe injuries, including a possible facial fracture, according to police.

When officers arrived, they documented:

  • Heavy bleeding from her right eye and nose
  • Her left eye swollen shut
  • Bruising described as “dark purple”

Investigators say the woman was terrified to speak, telling officers that Dobie had threatened to “kill her children” if she reported him.

According to the arrest affidavit, the dispute escalated in their 1-year-old son’s room:

“Dobie stormed into the room and began throwing furniture.”

Fearing for her child’s safety, the woman picked him up — but Dobie allegedly cornered her and punched her in the face.

The impact reportedly caused:

“Her head to hit the wall behind her and for her to lose consciousness.”

When she awoke, she was still holding her child, bleeding on the floor, and Dobie was gone. Police say he later returned to the door and warned her:

“If you speak to police, I will kill you and your children.”

Legal Proceedings Ahead

Dobie appeared briefly in court on Thursday. A judge ordered electronic monitoring and prohibited him from contacting the victim. His next court appearance has not yet been announced.

Meanwhile, donations on his GoFundMe continue to rise — even as he faces severe allegations that could lead to significant prison time if convicted
