Miami Driver Arrested After Threatening Couple With Knife and Gun During Road Rage Incident, Police Say
Miami, Florida — A 32-year-old man is behind bars after police say he threatened to kill a woman and her husband during a violent road rage confrontation outside their home. The suspect allegedly brandished both a knife and a gun while yelling death threats at the couple as they attempted to park their car.
Confrontation Began When Woman Tried to Back Into Her Driveway
According to court documents, Kayan Dealmeida-Fernandes was driving through a residential neighborhood on Nov. 6 when he came upon a woman who was backing her vehicle into her driveway. Instead of waiting, investigators say he honked repeatedly, drove around her, and then stopped his vehicle in the middle of the road to confront her.
He allegedly exited his car, walked toward the woman, and shouted:
“What the f— was that, b—? You saw me coming!”
Police say the woman remained in her car attempting to park when the suspect escalated the confrontation further.
Suspect Threatened to Kill the Woman While Holding a Knife
Authorities stated that Dealmeida-Fernandes moved closer to the victim while holding a pocketknife and yelled:
“Do you want to die or no?”
The woman called for her husband, who ran outside to help. Court documents say the husband shoved the suspect, who continued holding the knife while making additional threats.
The couple later told officers that they feared for their lives during the confrontation.
Man Allegedly Pointed a Gun as He Drove Away
After the physical altercation, Dealmeida-Fernandes returned to his car. But instead of leaving peacefully, police say he pointed a gun at the couple, yelled a racial slur, and shouted:
“You want to die?”
He then sped off.
The victims immediately contacted police, providing officers with a vehicle description and details about the threats made.
Police Arrested the Suspect Days Later
Investigators tracked Dealmeida-Fernandes to his residence in Miami and conducted a traffic stop when he attempted to leave. Officers found a pocketknife in his right pocket and a firearm inside his vehicle.
After being read his rights, he allegedly admitted to threatening the couple with both the knife and the gun.
Dealmeida-Fernandes is charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is being held at the Metrowest Detention Center on $20,000 bond.
His next court appearance is a bond hearing scheduled for Dec. 10.
