Georgia Bojangles Manager Fatally Shoots Employee’s Father After Argument in Restaurant Parking Lot, Police Say
Palmetto, Georgia — A 25-year-old Bojangles manager is facing murder charges after police say he shot and killed the father of one of his employees during a confrontation outside the restaurant Sunday afternoon. Authorities say the victim had arrived to help his teenage daughter after she called him for support.
Employee Called Her Father After Argument With Her Boss
According to investigators, the incident unfolded around 1:15 p.m. at the Bojangles located at 9135 Roosevelt Highway in the Atlanta suburb of Palmetto. Police say Maurice Evans, a shift manager at the restaurant, became involved in a dispute with a teenage employee.
The girl contacted her father, Dominique Goodman, seeking help after she “got into it” with her manager.
Family friend Marlene Lately told reporters:
“She called her dad, which any child would do, and the dad came up there to see about his daughter.”
Moments later, Goodman and Evans began arguing in the parking lot.
Manager Allegedly Shot Victim During Confrontation
Police say the confrontation escalated quickly. During the dispute, Evans allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot Goodman, killing him at the scene.
Responding officers found the victim lying in the parking lot with fatal injuries. Evans was immediately detained and later transported to the Fulton County Jail, where he remains in custody.
He is charged with:
- Murder
- Aggravated assault
- Possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime
Authorities have not yet released additional details about what sparked the argument.
Family Friend Calls the Killing “Senseless”
In another interview with local station WSB, family friend Marlene Lately expressed anger and heartbreak over the shooting.
“These people need to put these guns down, and [Evans] should’ve gone home like the other manager told him and none of this would’ve happened.”
“She would have a father. They would have their cousin and their brother… and it’s at the holiday.”
Goodman leaves behind children and extended family members who say they are devastated by the sudden loss.
Bojangles Releases Statement After Deadly Shooting
A spokesperson for Bojangles released a statement addressing the tragedy, saying the company was “heartbroken” by the violence:
“Our hearts go out to the victim and all those impacted by this senseless act. The franchisee is fully cooperating with local law enforcement as they conduct their investigation. We strongly condemn all acts of violence.”
The company added that the safety of employees and guests “is always our top priority.”
Investigation Continues
Police have not indicated whether additional charges may be forthcoming or whether surveillance footage captured the incident. Detectives are still interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence to determine exactly how the argument escalated.
The community now mourns the loss of a father who, according to loved ones, was simply trying to stand up for his daughter.
