New Hampshire Man Who Killed His Father Now Accused of Strangling His Mother Months After Early Prison Release

NASHUA, NEW HAMPSHIRE — A New Hampshire man who fatally stabbed his father more than 20 times in 2006 is once again in police custody after authorities say he assaulted and strangled his mother just months after being released early from prison.

Ian Delmore, 40, has been charged with assault – domestic violence – strangulation and domestic violence – simple assault, according to reports from local NBC affiliate WBTS. Police responded after Delmore’s mother called officers claiming she had been attacked and feared for her life. Responding officers spoke with her at the scene and took Delmore into custody.

Investigators later gathered additional evidence that led prosecutors to formally file charges.

Mother Told Police She Feared for Her Life

According to police statements, Delmore’s mother contacted authorities in distress after what she described as a violent encounter with her son. Officers arriving at the scene assessed the situation, documented injuries, and arrested Delmore without further incident. He is currently being held without bail while awaiting his next court hearing.

Delmore Previously Killed His Father in a Brutal 2006 Attack

Delmore became widely known nearly two decades ago after the killing of his father during a family dispute. Prosecutors said Delmore plunged a butcher knife into his father’s head, face, and back more than 20 times, penetrating the victim’s brain.

The stabbing occurred after an argument over a home plumbing project. When Delmore’s father intervened in the dispute between his wife and son, Delmore attacked him, repeatedly saying:

“You brought this on yourself. You drove me to it. It’s all your fault.”

Following the stabbing, Delmore stabbed himself in the chest and abdomen before running to a neighbor’s house. Police later found him hiding in the woods, covered in blood. According to the Associated Press, Delmore told officers:

“I know I’m going to jail. I need help. I’m hurt.”

Mental Health and Abuse Claims Were Expected to Be Raised at Trial

Delmore originally planned to argue self-defense and raise mental health issues before later accepting a plea deal. At age 22, he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 2008 and was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

During sentencing, he apologized to his family and acknowledged the pain caused by his actions. Despite that sentence, Delmore was released early this May.

Delmore’s Mother Previously Expressed Love for Her Son Despite the 2006 Murder

After the killing of her husband, Delmore’s mother spoke publicly, telling local ABC affiliate WMUR she appreciated the professionalism of the Nashua Police Department and still cared deeply for her son.

Her recent call to police now places her in the position of reporting her son for a second violent incident within the same household.

Next Steps in the Case

Delmore remains held without bail as authorities proceed with the domestic violence and strangulation charges. A court date has not yet been announced.
