Louisiana Man Sentenced to Life After Beating Girlfriend Until Her Brain Swelled and Leaving Her Unconscious for Hours, Authorities Say

LOUISIANA — A northern Louisiana man will spend the rest of his life in prison after authorities say he brutally beat his girlfriend, left her unconscious for nearly an entire day, and made no attempt to call for help as her condition fatally deteriorated.

Prosecutors Say Victim Suffered Massive Head Trauma and Was Left Without Aid

According to the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office, 36-year-old Brandon Lindsey was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the murder of 23-year-old Heaven Weed. Investigators say Lindsey assaulted Weed sometime after the couple returned home from a nightclub in Caddo Parish on March 1, 2023.

Authorities described Weed’s injuries as “extensive,” including severe brain swelling, fractured ribs, and widespread bruising and lacerations. When her mother eventually found her the following evening, emergency personnel reported that Weed was “so stiff it took several people to move her” into the hospital.

Lindsey Allegedly Stayed With Her Body for Nearly 18 Hours

Investigators say Lindsey went to work the next morning as if nothing had happened, then returned to Weed’s home around 11:45 a.m. GPS data shows he remained there until Weed’s mother arrived around 8 p.m.

When she entered the home, Lindsey reportedly said “she’s messed up” and left without calling 911 or seeking assistance. Prosecutors emphasized that Weed was left unconscious for approximately 18 hours before receiving medical care.

Weed was rushed to Ochsner LSU Health in Shreveport, where she died roughly ten days later from closed-head traumatic brain injury. Her organs were donated.

Investigators Describe Bleach Smell, Blood Spatter, and Evidence of Cleanup

When law enforcement arrived at the residence, they noted a strong odor of bleach and cleaning chemicals, including Clorox wipes and Fabuloso. Officers documented blood spatter in multiple rooms and several areas where it appeared blood had been wiped.

Detectives also recovered a mattress topper, pillow, and towel from the washing machine — all containing the victim’s blood. Lindsey’s clothes from the nightclub were also found with Weed’s blood on them, prosecutors say.

Previous Girlfriend Testified to Years of Abuse

During the trial, a former girlfriend testified that Lindsey had abused her for years, causing black eyes, fractured ribs, a broken jaw, and long-term medical issues, including seizures. She told the court he dragged her by her hair, kicked her in the head, and repeatedly punched her in the face — injuries so severe she later required dental implants.

Prosecutors argued this pattern of violence underscored the brutality of Weed’s killing.

Loved Ones Remember Weed as Adventurous and Determined

Weed’s obituary described her as having “an adventurous soul” and a young woman who “lived life to the fullest.” She was the first in her immediate family to graduate college and was known for bringing joy to those around her, including coworkers at Bally’s Casino in Shreveport.

Her family said she was selfless, courageous, and someone who shared love freely with everyone she met.

Waldron News will continue to follow this case for any additional court developments.
